here is a camelia that a friend from the "country" gave us.
It started me thinking about all the various camelias that we have here in our yard. so here's the samlping.First a view of the "way down way down" in morning light.
As a northerner who has lived in the South for 15 years (first in Charleston, now Atlanta), there are few things that are as "screamingly southern" as camellias and magnolias. Just when one is ready to climb the walls from cabin fever, the camellias send forth their exquisite blooms and we know spring is right around the corner!
Tim - the last two (Prof. Sargent and Debutante) have been blooming so long they are done. i saved those pictures from Nov. The others are just now reaching their peak! We used to decorate the punch bowl at Christmas parties with camellias.
I guess I need to seriously think about moving south so I can grow these beauties. You have a great collection.
ReplyDeletethanks Larry. I've heard of them called Christmas Rose - because some start blooming as early as November here.
